Some forms of stress can produce an enzyme that interferes with short-term memory and other higher brain functions, according to an article appearing Friday in the magazine Science.
The enzyme is protein kinase C (PKC), the same substance that has previously been implicated in bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, according to the Yale University study.
