China's Pompeii in Henan: village preserved by mud

China's Pompeii in Henan: village preserved by mud

The Sanyangzhuang ruins were excavated in the old course of the Yellow River, the second longest waterway in China, archeologists announced.

These are the only intact ruins of an ancient village so far discovered in China, said Xu Pingfang, a famous archeologist of the Han (206 BC-220 AD) and Tang dynasties (618-907).

The ruins vividly show the distribution of courtyards and the nearby environment: All the courtyards face the south and are surrounded by cropland.

Dr. James Howenstine -- The Truth About Cholesterol

Dr. James Howenstine -- The Truth About Cholesterol

Two years ago Dr. Julian Whitaker proposed to the FDA that the package insert supplied with a statin drug contain information that statin drugs decrease the levels of the critical nutrient CoQ 10 in patients. He wisely suggested. that all patients taking statin drugs should also be taking 100 to 200 mg. of CoQ 10 daily to avoid complications (heart failure, muscle breakdown with potentially fatal kidney failure {myoglobulinuria}, muscle weakness, peripheral neuritis, transient global amnesia etc.) The FDA ignored Dr. Whitaker's suggestion because admitting that there was a danger from statin drugs, even if true, might hurt the sales of statin drugs.

My Favorite Feed

I have a Bloglines feed set up to bring me Flooring News. I started it with the idea of getting info on the flooring business, style trends, industry news and etc. It's great for that but because it pulls in anything with the word flooring in it so I also get a world wide assortment of stories on everything from the redevelopment of an old Mission school in the Philipines to the redevelopment of the East Boston waterfront to the recovery of long sunken logging timbers to sports, odd discoveries of items hidden under floorboards and much much more. I check it a couple of times a month and there's always something good to read.

Shoot & Kill? Sure, we'll hold them till you get here.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar sounds great on a song that might be called Whiskey Wine and Gin. The piece sounds familiar and I think it may be from a live performance he did on Austin City Limits. I had a video of that for a while and it was a great performance that featured Texas Flood and Voodoo Child. Pure smoke and fire.

And...for what it's worth I was on the New York State Thruway coming back from the Philadelphia Folk Festival when I heard he had been killed. Big shock then and he's still missed.

Quote of the Month

Late, as usual, but timely.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we
are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and
servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. -Theodore
Roosevelt, 26th US President (1858-1919)

A devilish typo in a User's Review.

Everything was wonderful - a true value. Additionally, the folks that run this lodge are knowledgeable and fiendly.

Just saw a Pizza Hut ad in the Super Bowl pregame show. A twelve year old kid and some blonde in a red dress murdering Nancy Sinatra. For a second I thought she was gonna give the kid a lap dance.

Anything from Napster. They didn't sound like a very good deal back when they launched their new legal version and I think that's become obvious even to them. Essentially you just rent or lease the music you get from them and if you ever cancel your subscription the music becomes unplayable so you wind up with nothing. Today I saw they're offering a free trial to attract new subscribers. That's a big red flag right there. If the deal was any good in the first place they wouldn't have to do that now.

Drone Zone on SOMA FM. One of my favorites, it's great in the background when I need to be able to concentrate. They're on the net of course but they're also built into the iTunes radio section under Ambient.
