How much do you get for your kitchen remodeling dollar??

"The average kitchen remodeling job costs around $10,000," said Mark Martin, owner of Kitchen Tune-Up of Bettendorf. That price includes cabinets, countertops, flooring, and labor.

And what quality of products do you get for that price, and more expensive projects in the $20,000-$30,000 price range? Local remodeling experts help us sort through the prices of the products and the remodeling process.

$10,000

For $10,000, you're looking at manufactured cabinets with modest door styles and limited stain colors, Martin said. Types of woods used in this budget include oak, the least expensive, as well as maple and cherry, and hickory, the most expensive wood that fits into the $10,000 budget.

A laminate countertop also fits in the $10,000 budget.

"It's still the best buy for your money. A lot of laminate countertops look like granite, Corian, and stone. They're very durable and easy to take care of," Martin said.

From Africanfuturist on Flickr,
I hear that in the average art gallery, the average person spends an average 5.5 seconds looking at the picture and 7.6 seconds reading the caption.

Is this a scam???

I don't know. It does sound too good to be true. And I'm wondering why they would pay $300.00 when it seems like they could get their answers for a lot less. Anyway, in order for them to pay you they would need to have some kind of personal info and you know what your mother said about getting personal with strangers. Well, not your mother but other mothers.

Sister States: Kansas and Henan Province

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday will host a 28-member Chinese delegation from China’s Henan Province to reaffirm sister state relations between Kansas and Henan.

The visit includes a welcome banquet in Topeka hosted by Sebelius and meetings with Kansas business leaders to introduce trade opportunities within the state.

The delegation is led by Xu Guangchun, chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Henan Province. This is the chairman’s first visit to Kansas, and it will provide a unique setting to reaffirm Kansas’ 24-year-old sister state relationship with Henan and increase the dialogue between Kansas and Henan international representatives.

“Kansas is delighted to receive Chairman Xu and the Henan delegation,” Sebelius said in a statement. “We will provide a friendly welcome to our international guests and encourage them to seek more possibilitiesthat will allow us to increase Kansas jobs and exports. Working together will be beneficial to both our countries.”

Ties between Kansas and China are increasing. Trading patterns between Kansas and China rank China as the No. 4 country market for Kansas exports with over $200 million in sales in 2004.

Pretzel Logic Takes Liquid Form

This dope is wasting water to protest the waste of water and therefore it's art.

""LONDON - Mark McGowan went into the tiny backroom kitchen of a south London gallery three weeks ago and flipped on the cold water. He didn't turn it off, and doesn't plan to for an entire year.
"The Running Tap," as it's called, is McGowan's effort to protest against wasted water in London by blatantly letting it go down the drain.

"When you've got the tap on at home, you don't think about it. That's why this is art, because it makes people consider it," the environmentalist said.""

Slim Pickins For Mashups

Slim Pickens
I usually like the mashups on the Daily Source Code but the last two 7/06 & 7/08, from my POV, were pretty horrible. Maybe the well is drying up. All a matter of taste of course.

The Onion | Bush Regales Dinner Guests With Impromptu Oratory On Virgil's Minor Works

It's been a couple of weeks since anything from The Onion made me laugh. This made it worth the wait.

>>Bush arranged the small, informal dinner in honor of Camps' unexpected arrival in America.

"It had been too long since I'd heard one of W.'s anecdotes, so I simply got on a plane," Camps said. "I showed up at his doorstep with a watercolor by Ignat Bednarik, whom I know he adores, just to make sure he'd let me in."<<

Another Rebuttal To Cruise

This time from the acting Govenor of New Jersey.

"Tom Cruise knows as much about postpartum depression as I do about acting, and he should stick to acting and not talk about women who need help," said Richard J. Codey, whose wife, Mary Jo, has struggled with the illness.

Private Eyes Fear Limits On Information Access

Social security numbers were not invented for the convenience of investigators, private or public. Give me a break. I'm supposed to have my financial well being or the security of my personal private information placed in jeopardy because someone else might skip on a debt? We're going to pass a law that says the needs of a business lobby are more important than that of an individual protecting private property. F them, get a new line of work. This is still America isn't it?

From Hiawatha Bray at the Boston Globe: Some of the arguments for and against municipalities providing internet access for their citizens. I'm all for it and as far as I can tell the only ones opposing it are those who stand to lose business.
