Sister States: Kansas and Henan Province

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday will host a 28-member Chinese delegation from China’s Henan Province to reaffirm sister state relations between Kansas and Henan.

The visit includes a welcome banquet in Topeka hosted by Sebelius and meetings with Kansas business leaders to introduce trade opportunities within the state.

The delegation is led by Xu Guangchun, chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Henan Province. This is the chairman’s first visit to Kansas, and it will provide a unique setting to reaffirm Kansas’ 24-year-old sister state relationship with Henan and increase the dialogue between Kansas and Henan international representatives.

“Kansas is delighted to receive Chairman Xu and the Henan delegation,” Sebelius said in a statement. “We will provide a friendly welcome to our international guests and encourage them to seek more possibilitiesthat will allow us to increase Kansas jobs and exports. Working together will be beneficial to both our countries.”

Ties between Kansas and China are increasing. Trading patterns between Kansas and China rank China as the No. 4 country market for Kansas exports with over $200 million in sales in 2004.
