Senate defeats proposed Constitutional Amendment. Rightly so in my opinion. The dream of liberty and protected rights, including free speech, came long before any flag was designed to fly over those ideas and that is what the revolutionaries fought for. They fought to achieve that dream and secure their liberties. However great a symbol the United States flag may be it remains only a symbol. It is the ideals it stands for that are truly important and deserving of protection. The flag itself is secondary.
